Going Digital, Free Copies, & Other Apples

The world is a-changing, and Silver Apples has decided to embrace that change wholeheartedly. Over the course of the last few months, we have seen just how important art is to us as humans. It gives us comfort and hope in times of uncertainty. It is the safe harbour we retreat to when the world feels overwhelming. It’s a beautiful, bold portrait of humanity that can produce empathy and help us face fear head on.

We’ve recently been reflecting on why we started this magazine in the first place. Right from the start, we wanted Silver Apples to be a place for artists to be seen and heard, but the magazine’s current format isn’t achieving that objective as well as we would like.

Art should be accessible to everyone, regardless of whether or not they can afford it, so here’s how we’ll start making that truth real:

  • Our fourteenth issue, Reconnection, will be hosted entirely on our website

  • PDFs of all our previous issues are available for download, for free

We want our writers and artists to be seen by as many people as possible and we want their work to be experienced, appreciated, and shared widely. We’ve always been about experimentation and, if all goes well, we hope to continue hosting future issues of Silver Apples exclusively on the website.

We recognise this may change how people feel about submitting to us and we understand. We will continue to only publish work we love and believe in. The quality of our product is the one thing that we’ll always strive to maintain.

If anyone would like to contribute to the costs of running the magazine, a variety of ways to donate will be made available on our website (all pending, bear with us!). For now, you’re all in our thoughts. Stay safe, keep reading, and keep on creating art that’s worth consuming.
