A Few Notes

Here are the three main things you should know about Silver Apples Magazine:

  1. We publish writing across all genres and mediums. Do you have prose, poetry, or a one-act play? Because we want it. Do you dare to defy genres or mediums? Because we publish those pieces, too.

  2. If we love your piece and it works with our current theme, we will publish it no matter who you are. Past themes have included: ‘Modern Mythologies,’ ‘Oxymorons,’ and ‘Dirty Laundry,’ and brainstorming fresh ideas for the next issue is one of our favourite activities.

  3. We want to be available for our submittees. We know how hard it is to submit your work, and how disappointing it can be to get rejections with no explanation as to why your work didn't fit with the publication. It might take us a few weeks to get back to you after submission closes, what with getting the magazine together, but if you ask for feedback, we will provide it.

Gráinne is the Children’s Buyer at O’Mahony’s Booksellers, a job that regularly sees her in fancy dress and hosting book launches. In 2021, she established Rontu Literary Service to guide and support Children’s Fiction writers through their publication journey, from manuscript assessment to the submission process to managing deadlines post-contract.

She recently completed a short story collection about the thirteen weddings she attended in one year titled Cordially Invited. She is now working on her first novel. She has a cat called Chowder who doesn’t like her sense of humour and a cat called Buttersctoch who is undecided. She also has a fiancee who isn’t that gone on it himself.

We wrangled us an American! A poet and recovering Tetris addict, Melissa received the William Heath Award for her contributions to Lighted Corners and was on the publishing team for UL’s The Ogham Stone (2019). She is currently working on a novel that will probably need to be published under a pen name, you know, so that Thanksgiving doesn’t get awkward.
